Handmade rugs from Azerbaijan are now available online

The United States-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC) and the USAID-funded Private Sector Activity project jointly support carpet weavers in rural Azerbaijan by enabling access to the global marketplace through Shopify, an e-commerce platform. We are pleased to announce that handmade rugs woven by rural Azerbaijani women are now available to online shoppers worldwide.

The online store (www.azcarpetshop.com), created with the support of the USACC and the USAID PSA project, displays a variety of designs of traditional and contemporary rugs from Ganja, Gazakh, Guba, Karabakh, Nakhchivan, and Shirvan weaving schools of Azerbaijan. The online store allows Azerbaijani female weavers to connect with customers in different parts of the world and communicate their personal stories through their handwoven rugs.

USACC and USAID PSA have partnered with "Azerkhalcha" OJSC, which emerged as the largest employer of female professionals playing a critical role in promoting women's empowerment and gender equality in rural areas of Azerbaijan.

Last month the USACC and “Azerkhalcha” OJSC inaugurated the exhibition of Azerbaijani Handmade Rugs in Washington, D.C. Located in the historic Georgetown, the USACC Gallery houses over 60 handmade rugs woven by rural Azerbaijani women. Various designs – from traditional to contemporary styles, displayed in our gallery represent the rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan and the beauty of Azerbaijani carpet craftsmanship.
