Washington D.C. - The United States-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC) successfully held the Exhibition of antique Azerbaijani carpets from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries at the USACC Gallery, nestled in the heart of the historic Georgetown.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the rich cultural history of Azerbaijan, showcasing the exquisite artistry and centuries-old traditions of Azerbaijani carpet craftsmanship whilst learning firsthand how these traditions have gracefully endured the test of time, preserving their distinctiveness and unparalleled beauty despite the changes in history.
The exhibition, featured a genuine example of Safavid dynasty carpets from the private collection of Mr. Amir Oskouei, an ardent collector of Azerbaijani antique carpets. Mr. Oskouei's passion for preserving these masterpieces showcases his profound dedication to celebrating the rich history and craftsmanship of Azerbaijani carpets. The opening ceremony attracted a diverse crowd, ranging from collectors and experts to carpet appreciators.
Patrons marveled at the exquisite artistry and design of the carpets, which represent different weaving schools and sizes of Azerbaijan, and visitors were treated to a diverse range of carpets weaved and maintained over time.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was graced by speakers, including Natig Bakhishov, executive director of the USACC, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Khazar Ibrahim, and the owner of the collection Mr. Amir Oskouei. The speakers highlighted the importance of preserving Azerbaijan's carpet-weaving tradition and preserving it for generations to come.
All the displayed carpets are available for viewing in the USACC Gallery, at 1212 Potomac Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20007, from July 2nd, 2023 – July 8th, 2023, 10:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. EST.
